California's Enterprise Zones PDF Print E-mail

Jed Kolko of Pacific Policy Institute of California discusses his in-depth study of California's Enterprise Zones in this interview recorded June 23,2010.  Since 1986, local cities and counties could apply to have small areas within their jurisdictions declared one of 42  "enterprise zones," giving businesses within those zones special tax breaks on employee's salaries and machinery.  Dr. Kolko's study provides stong evidence that the zones have not stimulated more job-creation than would have happened without the zone's preferences.

California Commerce Interviews PDF Print E-mail

California Commerce is a weekly half-hour public-interest interview show on 90.1 FM KBPK.  It can be heard every Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (0130 UTC Monday) in north Orange County and southeast Los Angeles County on 90.1 MHz FM or over the internet at http//www.kbpk-fm.com.  Each week I interview a guest who shares special expertise on a facet of the Southern California economy.

I have collected a number of the shows on this website, and arranged them either by topic or by the school or university where the guest lectures.  The downloadable files are in the mp3 format, and most are less than 7 MB. They may be played on your computer's Windows Media Player, or loaded into and played on an mp3 device.

KBPK is a non-commercial FCC-licensed radio station with studios on the campus of Fullerton College, and transmitting facilities in Buena Park. It plays a good mix of contemporary music 24 hours a day.  On Sunday evenings, the station carries a number of infomative programs, such as "New Notes," "The Planetary Society," and, of course, "California Commerce."
