California's Enterprise Zones PDF Print E-mail

Jed Kolko of Pacific Policy Institute of California discusses his in-depth study of California's Enterprise Zones in this interview recorded June 23,2010.  Since 1986, local cities and counties could apply to have small areas within their jurisdictions declared one of 42  "enterprise zones," giving businesses within those zones special tax breaks on employee's salaries and machinery.  Dr. Kolko's study provides stong evidence that the zones have not stimulated more job-creation than would have happened without the zone's preferences.

First-time Homebuyer's Tax Credit PDF Print E-mail

Both interviews for this two-part program were conducted September 18, 2009.  My first guest is Dr. Roberton Williams of the Brookings Institute's Tax Policy Center.  He was a principal analyst at the Congressional Budget Office from 1984 to 1998, then Deputy Assistant Director for Tax Analysis for the CBO from 1998 to 2006.  He talks about the recent moves by Congress to extend and enlarge the first-time homebuyer's tax credit. 

My second guest is Sara Richards, Senior Loss Control Manager at CPEhr, a Los Angeles human resources outsourcing company.  She talks about making the workplace safe and taking steps to stop the spread of the H1N1 virus.
